The 10th Aparaaditehas Festival Invites You to Explore the Kastani–Filosoofi Quarter

On the last weekend of August, the Kastani–Filosoofi quarter will once again come alive as the 10th Aparaaditehas Festival takes place, inviting visitors over the course of three days to explore both the hidden corners of the cultural factory and the surrounding neighborhood.

The program kicks off already on Thursday, August 28, with a spectacular dance performance “Touch of Borders” on the Aparaaditehas rooftop garden, the quirky Estonian Championships in Running Through Aparaaditehas, and the premiere screening of the short film cassette “Once Upon a Time in Aparaaditehas..”, filmed in the factory this summer.

On Friday, August 29, the festival hosts the biggest highlight of the year — Gallery Night Vol. 16. In addition to galleries, the doors of numerous art studios and creative residents of Aparaaditehas will also be open. Visitors can explore 12 diverse exhibitions, take part in 6 different workshops, enjoy 4 live music performances, and join 4 fascinating guided tours both inside the factory and around the district.

On Saturday, August 30, Kastani Street will once again be closed to traffic, making way for the Müürilill Flea Market traders and various street food vendors. In the Aparaaditehas courtyard park, children and families will find plenty to do at the Karud ja Pojad art and play yard, full of hands-on activities and games. The Ajuokse Alternative Art Market expands this year beyond the Samelin courtyard into Plantarium, where the Plantäika plant market will also take place. Vinyl lovers should head to the Aparaaditehas lobby for the Biit Me record fair. Saturday will also feature several exciting tours introducing both the local history and street art of the district.

Sports enthusiasts won’t be left out either: the day starts with morning yoga at Tartu Ashtanga Yoga School, continues with a choice between the Kastani Street Open Table Tennis Championships or the Rampjam skateboarding session at Filosoofi 15, and ends with an energetic BMX Street Jam in the Aparaaditehas courtyard park.
