NGO APARAADITEHAS

The non-profit association Aparaaditehas is an organization established in 2017, whose mission is to support and develop the cultural and community life of the Aparaaditehas creative factory located at Kastani 42 in Tartu and the surrounding area, and to stand for the responsible and human-friendly development of the neighbourhood surrounding Aparaaditehas.

The members of the NGO Aparaaditehas value,  create,  develop and maintain meaningful discussions in the field of urban space and culture.

The goals of the NGO Aparaaditehas are:
1. to promote, support and organize cultural events in the Apparaatite factory and the surrounding district;
2. to promote the Appliance Factory and the yard as a venue for cultural events among event organizers not related to the building;
3. to stand for the responsible and human-friendly development of the area surrounding the Aparaaditehas; to prepare, maintain and further develop the Aparaaditehas Pocket Park;
4. to become Tartu's most important center of attraction for cultural events.

The principles of ethical activity of NGO Aparaaditehas

Democratic leadership and functioning

  1.  The mission of the NGO Aparaaditehas is to support and develop the cultural and community life of the Aparaaditehas creative factory located at Kastani 42 in Tartu and the surrounding area, and to stand for the responsible and human-friendly development of a good region.
  2. In fulfilling its mission, the NGO is based on the laws of the Republic of Estonia, the articles of association, the decisions of the elected governing bodies of the NGO, relevant international agreements and the principles of ethical activity.
  3. The NGO, as a voluntary association of society members, values its members and considers and expresses their various interests within the limits of the NGO's mission and goals.
  4. The members of the NGO are valuers, creators, developers and maintainers of meaningful discussions in the field of urban space and culture.
  5. The NGO involves its members and the public in the promotion of civil society through public education, participatory democracy, guardianship and other forms, including participating through its members in representative assemblies, research and educational institutions, other civil associations; as well as in dialogue with entrepreneurs and government agencies and with public statements and appearances in the media.
  6. The NGO considers people's involvement and voluntary work to be the foundation of civil society and values it.
  7. The NGO consistently strives for skillful operation and professionalism in order to achieve the best results.
  8. The NGO ensures the democratic management of the association, holds the association's board and general assembly and employees accountable and responds to their misdeeds.

Civic courage, care, cooperation and tolerance

  1.  The NGO Aparaaditehas is open to new ideas and different points of view, as well as cooperation to achieve common goals with other organizations, institutions, companies and individuals that support the goals of the NGO.
  2. The NGO shows civic courage in the fight against injustice in society.
  3.  The NGO, seeing incompetence and injustice in laws and other legislation and their implementation, works to change them.
  4. The NGO does not use or promote violence to express its views, achieve goals and public attention.
  5. The NGO recognizes the difference in ways of thinking, the diversity of associations and their goals.
  6.  The NGO does not denigrate or slander other associations, their positions and the persons active in them.
  7. The NGO adheres to both written contracts and oral agreements.
  8. The NGO respects the authorship of ideas and projects of other associations.

Accountability and transparency

  1. NGO Aparaaditehas uses natural, human and intellectual assets as well as material and property resources prudently and economically, taking into account the needs of today and future generations.
  2. The NGO uses the funds received for its activities expediently and purposefully.
  3. The NGO, both as an applicant and as a supporter, is based on good financing practices, justification and transparency of budgets and refrains from double financing.
  4. The NGO considers readiness for reporting important, which is ensured by skillful management, internal reporting and guidance from good accounting practice.
  5. The NGO reports on its activities and is responsible to members, supporters, donors and the public. The non-governmental organization publishes the substantive and financial report of its activities at least once a year.
  6. Information about the mission of the NGO, general indicators of the membership, activities and financing is public. Members' personal data is protected in accordance with applicable laws.
  7. The NGO communicates openly and directly under its own name and does not act anonymously.
  8. The NGO is independent in its goal-setting, decisions and activities, and refrains from falling under the control of a political party, public institution or company, thereby losing its independence and ability to act in the public interest.
  9.  The NGO and the persons operating there refrain from getting into a conflict of interest. In the event of a conflict of interest, the association takes the necessary measures to end it.
  10. The principles of the ethical activities of the NGO are based on the code of ethics of non-governmental organizations.
