WORKSHOP // Photogravure with Nelly Toussaint
![]()
On Saturday, 21st February 13.00-15.00, we invite you to try out photogravure!
Photogravure is a photomechanical process used to reproduce images, involving transferring a photograph onto a metal (copper) or photopolymer plate through exposure and acid etching, in order to create a printing form. During this workshop, we will cover all the steps involved in creating a photogravure, from start to finish, including printing.
Each participant will work on their own plate and print their own base image. Your base image must be black and white, and can have shades of grey. It can be a photograph, a hand-drawn image, such as lines or a more complex drawing. Participants are asked to create their own base image before the workshop, digitize it and send the file (.jpg) to TYPA (merilin@typa.ee).
Workshop price is 24/20€*

Nelly Toussaint is a French artist born in 1986 who lives and works in Finland since 2017.
Nelly Toussaint questions the representation of women in Western art history and its use as a tool of domination, by re-drawing intaglio prints from art museums’ collections, embroidering feminist slogans with her own hair and drawing self-portraits. By blending personal experiences, Western art history and feminist critique, Toussaint is changing the narrative dominated by oppressive patriarchal representations, in order to liberate women’s bodies and stories.
