Short Forms and Improvisations: Encounters between Cultures
An evening of short forms brings together different cultures and life experiences – dances that speak of life, transformation and being human.
Three works reflect on a cross-cultural theme – how experiences are stored in the body and shape our essence.
“Fragments of Existence” combines two intimate solos – Centifolia (Marine Fernandez, Lithuania) and Speechless (Heung Won Lee, South Korea).
Through two different, yet mutually resonant body languages, these works explore how our bodies store and express life experiences.
In Speechless, Heung Won brings personal memories of collapse and resilience into movement – silence becomes both a burden and a source of strength.
In Centifolia, Marine Fernandez reflects on the changing relationship between a woman and her body, interweaving movement, theatricality and voice to reflect on identity, fragility and inner strength.
Together, these works create a gentle dialogue between fragility and strength, inviting the audience to reflect on how we carry our stories within us – and how we are constantly changing through movement.
The evening culminates with the work “Bridges”, which brings three generations of dancers from Estonia and Japan to the stage. Sensei Isso Miura, an 88-year-old Japanese butoh master, meets Estonian choreographer Teet Kask and his student – in a dialogue that connects generations and life experiences.
