EXHIBITION // Timo Toots, Mari-Liis Rebane “Floral Atlas”
Artists Timo Toots and Mari-Liis Rebane are the leaders of Maajaam, a technological art farm located near Otepää in South Estonia, and the organizers of the open-air exhibition "Wild Bits." Kogo Gallery, however, is the first place where the works of both artists meet in a shared space.
The exhibition "Floral Atlas" maps flowering plants from the lush and vibrant meadows of South Estonia - where the inhabitants of the Maajaam beehive forage - and draws attention to those flowering species that have now disappeared from their natural habitats.
At the heart of Timo Toots installation "Pollinarium" is an animated star map where each pulsating point of light represents not a distant celestial body, but a flowering plant in the vicinity of the Maajaam art farm. The work combines the precision of DNA analysis taken from honey with the vastness of the starry sky, revealing the rich community of blossoms surrounding a beehive from the perspective of these small winged creatures.
Mari-Liis Rebane’s audio work "Hold My Bloom Gently" takes the visitor on an imaginary journey through diverse landscapes and habitats, guided by storytelling. These stories speak of flower-bearing plants, some of whose lives are closely linked to bees and other pollinators. Most of these flowering species have permanently vanished from their natural environments.
The exhibition "Floral Atlas" invites reflection on the role of flowering plants in nature and calls on visitors to experience the unseen.
