EXHIBITION // "Light cast" by Linda Studena

The tree never touches the building, yet its presence is projected across the surface. This exhibition brings together drawings, photographs and prints resulting from daily observations in Tartu, particularly the shadows cast by linden trees across the façade of an apartment building on Riia tänav (Riga Street). Stretching across architecture and public space, these shadows record encounters between light, time and place.

Print technologies and practices are used to examine how images and documents are recorded and reproduced. Through these processes, fragments and afterimages move between observation, documentation and recollection. In monotypes, cyanotypes, drawings and image transfers, traces emerge through proximity, repetition and transformation.

Linda Studena is a Czech Australian artist based in Naarm/Melbourne working across drawing, printmaking and photography. Her practice draws on archives, place and material processes to explore cultural memory, migration and historical experience. She has exhibited in Australia, Europe and the United States, and holds a Master of Contemporary Art from the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne, with additional postgraduate studies undertaken at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
Linda is currently an artist-in-residence at the TYPA Center (May–June 2026).

The exhibition will stay open from June 18–29 at the TYPA Gallery, Kastani 48f. The TYPA Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 12:00 PM–6:00 PM.
