EXHIBITION // „From Here to Eternity“, Liisi Lukk
As part of the Appliance Factory's Night of Galleries Vol 14, two exhibitions with very different styles, but in some ways similar sensibilities, will open in the Redwall office and the corridor in front of it at 18:30. Mari Ann Rebas's sensitive prints and Liisi Lukki's colourful and detailed drawings and collages are united by nature motifs, poetry, feminine power and intimacy. The exhibitions will remain open on the second floor of the building on Kastani Street until 16 February 2025. Below, the artists introduce themselves and their exhibitions. Mari Ann Rebane "Elupoeesia"
-----------------------------------
The exhibition "Elupoeesia" invites us to notice the idyll of everyday life, or the magic of everyday life. At the heart of the exhibition are the artist's unique drypoint prints, on which she has used recycled plastic instead of traditional copperplate. This innovative approach reflects the artist's relationship with nature, a desire to find more environmentally sustainable ways of creative expression. An education in biology is reflected in the artist's handwriting, not only in his approach to the material, but also in his subject matter and sense of perspective.
The microscopic world she has seen a lot of during her studies has become close to her heart in the circular format, which has a symbolic meaning for Mari Ann. It can be a circle of life from birth to death, as well as evolution from cell to organism. Moreover, the circular completion creates focus and intimacy for everything depicted within. Each work is a window into the artist's soul - the prints can be seen as a slice of his essence. The richness of detail and sensitivity in the drypoint drawings create an intimate atmosphere where the viewer, as they study the drawing, can feel as if they are part of these moments of life captured on paper. Between the lines of the works, one can read an invitation to the viewer to delve deeper into the romance of their own soul and routines. The exhibition is a visual journey through the poetry of life and nature, offering an opportunity to discover the symbiosis between art and nature and to find the magic in ordinary motifs.
Author: I am Mari Ann Rebane. I am Ann Ann Annane, an artist who follows the lead of her heart. Even as a little girl, I was always doodling and drawing and as I grew up, art became an important part of my life. I draw inspiration mainly from the magical world of books and nature. I have also completed a bachelor's degree in biology, which humorously provided the final push to return fully to the world of art. I often focus on feminine power in my work - my paintings are fluid with references to Venus, while my prints are fragile, detailed and filigree. My very first encounter with printmaking left a deep mark on my journey, from which I could not fully retreat. Over time, my inner knowing has become clearer and my passion for printmaking has become stronger. The process of printing is very magical for me and I hope that it carries over into my work.

Liisi Lukk "From Here to Eternity"
-----------------------------------
The title of the exhibition "From Here to Eternity" refers to one of my favourite songs, written by Giorgio Moroder the year I was born, 1977. The exhibition features naive and childlike drawings that open the door to dreamlike and fairytale worlds, taking us back in time and inviting us to discover childhood memories and dreams. Each piece is created with a love of detail, where the intricate little details create a surreal atmosphere. Using mixed media, ink pens and markers, I have created works where each line and colour tells its own story. The exhibition will also include collages assembled from details of my own drawings, creating a unique and playful visual experience. A cross-section of my drawings from the last ten years is represented.
Author: I have lived and grown up in Kadriorg, Tallinn and spent summers in Saaremaa. Already in kindergarten, when I was asked who I wanted to be, my answer was an artist. When I was asked when I was a child when I was a child, when I was asked when I was a child, when I was asked when I was a child, when I was a child, when I was asked when I was a child to be a child. However, after graduating from the EAA, I ended up working in publishing houses and my drawing career stalled for years. I started drawing again only when I was at home on maternity leave. My biggest source of inspiration has been my daughter and her drawings. I am also inspired by nature, flowers, plants, houses, windows and music.
I can't really pinpoint my own style. A bit naive, sometimes surrealistic, and you can find a childish character in almost every picture. Sometimes dreamlike and fairytale-like. Most of the time I like to draw all over the paper; if there is a lot of blank space left, it feels to me like the picture isn't finished. I often delve into small details and pick at all sorts of bits and pieces. It's never the case that I know in advance what the picture is going to look like or what I want it to look like. I'll just start something from a corner and the rest will evolve as I work. The end result is always a surprise to myself. In the meantime, there was a period when I liked to make collages. I'd draw all sorts of different characters and plants and houses all over the papers and then cut them all out and start putting them on a new background. I do my drawings in mixed media, using ink pens, markers, acetone transfer technique, stencils, collage.
