Conversation evening with Eike Eplik and Maarja Pärtna
On 24.7 at 18:00–19:30 you are welcome to the Kogo gallery, where the poet and essayist Maarja Pärtna will talk to the artist Eike Eplik. The talk will be about Eike's current exhibition "Ajal, mil kõik muu tundub tõlõt" at Kogo - about the works, the creative process and more, as well as world affairs in general.
The conversation will be in Estonian and participation is free.
The curator of "Ajal, mil kõik muu tundub tõlõt" is Šelda Puķīte, the exhibition is open until 9.8.
The conversation is part of the exhibition's public program, which is supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia and the city of Tartu.
Maarja Pärtna (born 1986) is a poet and essayist who explores social-ecological themes in her work. She has published six poetry collections, the most recent of which, “On the Edge of Resurrection”, received the Annual Poetry Award of the Estonian Cultural Endowment for Literature. She has also received the Juhan Liiv Poetry Award, the Gustav Suits Poetry Award and the honorary title of Tartu Young Cultural Bearer. Pärtna was the Tartu City Writer of the Year 2024. Her poems have been translated into more than ten languages. Pärtna studied English and world literature at the University of Tartu and translated British nature aesthetics from English into Estonian. She has worked as a literary editor for the newspaper Müürileht and has done interviews for the publications Sirp, Looming, Müürileht and Värske Rõõk.
Eike Eplik (born 1982) is an Estonian sculptor and installation artist living in Tartu. She creates sensitive and imaginative works full of unique mythology using various visual means and materials such as clay, plaster, metal, wood and found objects. Eplik holds a Master's degree from the Estonian Academy of Arts, Department of Sculpture, and a Bachelor's degree from the Tartu Art College, Department of Sculpture. Her recent exhibitions include "White Dwarfs and All These Beautiful Clouds" at the Contemporary Art Center Kim? in Riga (2024); "Deep Swamp - The Formation of Spores" at the EKKM in Tallinn (2024) and "Emotional Landscapes" at the Arka Gallery in Vilnius (2023). In May 2025, Kogo Gallery presented Eike Eplik's works at the Esther II contemporary art fair in New York and in 2021 at the Liste Art Fair Basel. She has received the Annual Prize of the Estonian Cultural Endowment and several scholarships, and in 2021–2023 she was one of the recipients of the national artist's salary. Eplik is an artist represented by Kogo Gallery.
